I love kissing on my little girl.  I love to kiss her sweet cheeks, her soft belly, her little knees and that little corner of her neck.  I even love to kiss the bottoms of her feet.  I cannot get enough of her! One place, however, that I don’t kiss her is on the lips.

I have never been one to kiss a child or loved one (other than my current beau) on the lips.  To me it’s unnecessary.  Sure I could kiss Foxy on the lips and it’s not a big deal, but at what age would I stop?  At what age is kissing your child on the lips inappropriate?

Every once in a while, when I ask the youngest Offspring for some “sugar” he’ll give me a big peck on the lips.  I think he aims for my lips because I always kiss him on the chin.  I always tell him that he should be kissing me on the cheek.  He just laughs and tries to kiss me on the lips again.

Tim likes to kiss Foxy on the lips.  That is his prerogative as her daddy, but I still think he should stop.  Sure it’s totally harmless now, but when she gets older and someone asks her for a kiss, she might aim straight for their lips.  And her daddy is the only person on the planet she should be kissing on the lips.

I probably think too much about it.  A parent kissing their child on the lips probably isn’t a big deal.

I wouldn’t kiss a child on a lips. can’t see myself kissing my own child on the lips if I had one but I can’t see myself pregnant either! I think its okay for parents to do it but I guess you have to figure out when or if they might start kissing random adults or allowing random adults to kiss them and teach them what is appropriate for others to do. Or maybe they will just know they only do that with the close adults in their life
When my nephew was about 8 months, this not so close relative (like a step-cousin twice removed)who I really didn’t like held my nephew and was kissing him on the lips. My mom suggested that wasn’t sanitary. I thought it was gross but I wonder if that gross factor had to something to do with my feelings for this individual. So she says “look, he likes it, he’s puckering his lips at me” Crazy! My mom says he’s a baby, he doesn’t know what he’s doing. My SIL got points for putting up with my family that day.
